Manchester Essex boys soccer wins 4 to 0 at Hamilton-Wenham ahead of Newburyport test

The Hornets scored three second half goals and have lost only once this season. Next is a trip to unbeaten Newburyport.

Manchester Essex's boys soccer team took control in the second half at Hamilton-Wenham on Tuesday and rolled to a 4 to 0 win.

The Hornets led 1 to 0 at halftime Sept. 29 and added three goals after the break, according to the MaxPreps box score. It was their second 4 to 0 league win in a week.

Manchester Essex is 4 and 1 with three ties overall, and 4 and 1 with two ties in the Cape Ann League. Hamilton-Wenham fell to 6 and 3.

The Hornets also beat Georgetown 4 to 0 at home Sept. 24. The next day, Manchester Essex tied Masconomet 1 to 1.

What it means

The win moved the Hornets into a crowded chase near the top of the league. MaxPreps' standings list Manchester Essex fourth, level with Pentucket at 4 and 1 with two ties and just behind Hamilton-Wenham at 5 and 2. Manchester Essex's only loss this season came 2 to 0 to North Reading on Sept. 22.

Manchester Essex plays at Newburyport on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. The Clippers have not lost this season.

The Hornets then visit Rockport on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. Manchester Essex won the first meeting 3 to 1 on Sept. 8. Amesbury comes to Manchester on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 4 p.m.
