Manchester Essex field hockey posts another shutout; Rockport ties North Reading

The Hornets beat Newburyport 2 to 0 for their second straight shutout. Gloucester field hockey puts its perfect record on the line Thursday against Danvers.

Manchester Essex field hockey kept up its strong run Wednesday, and Rockport played North Reading to a draw.

Manchester Essex

The Hornets beat Newburyport 2 to 0 at home Wednesday, their second straight shutout after a 2 to 0 win over Hamilton-Wenham on Monday. Manchester Essex is 6 and 2 with a tie.

Next up is a home game against Rockport on Monday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. The Hornets won the first meeting 5 to 1 on Sept. 9.

Rockport

Field hockey tied North Reading 1 to 1 at home Wednesday. Rockport is 2 and 5 with two ties.

Gloucester

Gloucester volleyball swept Georgetown 3 to 0 on Wednesday, while both Gloucester soccer teams lost at Swampscott, the boys 1 to 0 and the girls 4 to 0. See the Scoreboard.

Thursday, Oct. 1

  • Field hockey: Danvers at Gloucester, 4:30 p.m. The Fishermen are 7 and 0.
  • Boys soccer: Manchester Essex at Newburyport, 4 p.m.; Rockport at North Reading, 4:30 p.m.
  • Girls soccer: Newburyport at Manchester Essex, 4:15 p.m.; North Reading at Rockport, 6 p.m.
  • Volleyball: Gloucester at Swampscott, 6 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 2

  • Football: Amesbury at Manchester Essex, 6:30 p.m.; Winthrop at Gloucester, 7 p.m. The weather service gives a 50% chance of showers Friday night.
