School Committee reviews accountability results, water committee meets

Good morning, Rockport. It's Wednesday, October 7. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Rockport Morning Current. Today, the School Committee reviews accountability results and heads into closed session for union negotiations.

The School Committee meets tonight at 7 p.m. at the library. According to the agenda, members will review the state's 2026 school accountability results and the schedule for releasing MCAS scores. They will also look at how last school year ended financially. The committee then goes into a closed session on teachers union negotiations and will not return to open session.

The Ad Hoc Water Committee meets on Zoom today at 2 p.m. Members will discuss how to square the state's mild drought level with the town's status. Rockport still bans all outdoor water use. The committee will also take up water use at Granite Pier and dye tablets that find leaking toilets.

Also meeting today, the Conservation Commission and the Board of Fire Engineers both meet at 6:30 p.m. The Millbrook Meadow Committee meets at 7 p.m.

In events, there is open Mahjong play today from noon to 2 p.m. at the library. Tomorrow night at 7 p.m., Michael Dutra performs a Strictly Sinatra tribute at the Shalin Liu Performance Center.

In high school sports, the golf team lost to Ipswich 142 to 134 on Tuesday. Manchester Essex swept Rockport in soccer, beating the girls 6 to 2 and the boys 2 to 0. Today, field hockey is at Ipswich at 4 p.m., and golf travels to Georgetown at 3 p.m.

The National Weather Service expects a sunny day today with a high near 62 and southwest wind gusts up to 23 miles per hour. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with a high near 68. High tides in Rockport are just before 9:16 a.m. and 9:37 p.m. today.
