Voter registration deadlines approach and the week ahead in Manchester by the Sea

Good morning, Manchester by the Sea. It's Sunday, October 11. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Manchester by the Sea Daily Current, free public information for Manchester by the Sea. Today we look at the week ahead and voter registration deadlines.

Town budgets are tight across Cape Ann. What is 1 town service you would protect no matter what? That is this week's question for the reader voice column. You can weigh in at capeanncurrent dot com slash crosscurrents.

Here are the public meetings this week. On Tuesday, the Essex School Building Committee holds a community meeting at 6 p.m. The Conservation Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., the Planning Board and the Essex School Building Committee both meet. On Wednesday, October 14, the Council on Aging Executive Board meets at 4:30 p.m., and the Harbor Advisory Committee meets at 5:30 p.m.

If you are not registered to vote in the November 3 state election, the deadline is Saturday, October 24. Early voting runs from October 17 to 30. The state mailed an information booklet to every household in September covering the 9 statewide ballot questions. You can also find it online and in audio.

On Tuesday, the Manchester by the Sea Public Library hosts a mushroom nightlight craft for teens at 4:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., the library hosts an off site event with author Aaron Mahnke.

In high school sports, the Manchester Essex girls soccer team lost to Salem 2 to 1 yesterday. Field hockey fell to Sandwich 7 to 0. Tomorrow, field hockey plays at Lynnfield at 10 a.m. On Tuesday, boys soccer hosts Lynnfield at 4 p.m., girls soccer plays at Lynnfield, and golf visits Hamilton Wenham at 3:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service expects mostly cloudy skies today with a high near 60. Forecasters say rain is likely tonight, and tomorrow turns partly sunny with a high near 63.
