Good morning. It's Tuesday, October 13. This is the Daily Current, free public information for Cape Ann from the Cape Ann Current. I'm Kerry Jane. Today we look at August unemployment rates across Cape Ann, early release days for Gloucester schools, and Rockport's reservoir levels.

Across Cape Ann, unemployment rates fell in August, according to federal estimates. In Gloucester, the rate dropped to 4.1 percent, down from 4.8 percent in July. Rockport's rate fell to 4.2 percent. Manchester by the Sea saw a drop to 3.3 percent, and Essex dipped slightly to 3 percent. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says all four towns sat below the statewide rate of 4.4 percent. The estimates count people who live in each town and are looking for work.

In Gloucester, students in elementary schools and O'Maley Middle School have early release on Thursday for parent and teacher conferences. The district calendar lists a second early release for those grades on Thursday, October 22. Families should check their school's notice for dismissal times and conference sign ups. The posted lunch menu for both early release days is a sunbutter and jelly sandwich, a yogurt cup, fresh veggie sticks, fruit, and Teddy Grahams. In Rockport, students have no school today.

In Rockport, the town's two drinking water reservoirs held at about 58 percent full for the week of October 4 to 10. The town's weekly water table shows that is the third week in a row near that level. The system is about 7 points below where it was in the same week last year. The town's total ban on outdoor water use remains in place. Commercial users may use water only for their core business.

Looking at the week ahead, Gloucester residents get free admission to Hammond Castle Museum today until 3:30 p.m. Tonight at 7 p.m., the Manchester by the Sea Public Library hosts an author talk on the history of the American vampire. On Wednesday, the Backyard Growcery farm stand runs at Burnham's Field in Gloucester from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. And on Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, the Manchester Essex Boosters carnival comes to Masconomo Park.

Several local boards meet today. In Gloucester, the City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. In Manchester by the Sea, the Planning Board meets at 7 p.m., and the Essex School Building Committee holds a community meeting at 6 p.m. Rockport's Council on Aging meets at 5 p.m., along with several other boards across Cape Ann.

Also happening today, Manchester Essex boys soccer hosts Lynnfield at 4 p.m. In Gloucester, the Beauport Hotel hosts live music from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Cape Ann Lanes holds music video bingo starting at 7:30 p.m.

In high school sports, no new finals came in after Columbus Day. Today brings a busy schedule across Cape Ann. In golf, Winthrop plays at Gloucester, Manchester Essex is at Hamilton Wenham, and Rockport visits Amesbury, all at 3:30 p.m. In boys soccer, Newburyport is at Rockport at 4 p.m. In girls soccer, Manchester Essex visits Lynnfield at 4 p.m., and Rockport is at Newburyport at 6 p.m. Gloucester field hockey plays at Beverly at 4:30 p.m., and Gloucester volleyball visits Winthrop at 5:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service expects a gray and damp Tuesday, with patchy fog and a chance of showers. Forecasters say today's high will be near 58, with southeast winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour, and showers are likely tonight. They expect Wednesday to be mostly sunny and warmer, with a high near 71. High tides in Gloucester Harbor peak today at 1:36 p.m. at 9.7 feet, and Wednesday at 2:14 p.m.

We also remember John F. George, 65, of Gloucester, and John Peter S. Dunn, 74, of Rockport.
