Massachusetts state agencies spent 4.53 billion dollars with small and diverse businesses in the 2025 budget year. That is more than double the amount spent in 2017, according to annual reports from the state Supplier Diversity Office. The reports show Cape Ann has fewer certified businesses per person than almost every county.

The National Weather Service expects a wet and windy Friday, with showers likely and a high near 68. South winds could gust up to 33 miles per hour. A gale watch is posted for the bays from this evening through Saturday evening. High tide in Gloucester Harbor is at 3:41 p.m., and Essex River tides run up to 24 minutes later.
