Good morning, Manchester by the Sea. It's Saturday, October 17. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Manchester by the Sea Daily Current, free public information for Manchester by the Sea. Today, the Finance Committee backs fire engine money and the new Essex Elementary School. Plus sports and the value of public libraries.
The Manchester Finance Committee voted Thursday to support using 710,927 dollars in free cash for a new fire engine arriving early. The committee also backed the town's 49.9 million dollar share of the new Essex Elementary School. A vote on the senior center was put off until the word grants is removed from the article.
The Manchester Essex girls soccer team fell to Marblehead 1 to 0 on Friday. The football team played at Triton Friday night, but a final score was not available early today. On Monday, the boys soccer team plays at Mystic Valley at 4:30 p.m.
Today, early voting is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The JV boys football team hosts Triton from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and the library hosts D and D for Kids from noon to 3 p.m.
Cape Ann towns spend about 62 dollars a person a year on their public libraries. State records show Cape Ann library cards were used for more than 105,000 digital loans last year. Going digital only would cost more than it seems, because publishers rent electronic books to libraries at several times the consumer price.
The National Weather Service expects a cool and windy Saturday with a high near 49, and a sunny Sunday with a high near 53.
That's the Manchester by the Sea Daily Current for Saturday. Everything we share is free public information from public records and government data.
