Good morning, Rockport. It's Tuesday, October 20. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Rockport Daily Current, free public information for Rockport. Today we look at the town's 41.6 million dollar budget.

At its April 11 town meeting, Rockport approved a 41.6 million dollar general fund budget for the current fiscal year. According to the town voters booklet, the spending plan is 5.2 percent higher than the year before. The Finance Committee credits a new fee on short term rentals with avoiding cuts. The fee helps cover rising employee health insurance costs.

At its October 6 meeting, the Select Board agreed to share a lawyer with Essex and Manchester by the Sea to negotiate a new Comcast cable license. The town clerk also announced that early voting runs through Friday, October 30 at her office. Voters will receive two ballot cards this year, and those who mail or drop off a ballot must return both.

Today, the Board of Assessors meets at 5 p.m. and the Select Board meets at 6 p.m. Tomorrow, the School Committee meets at 7 p.m. at the Rockport Public Library.

Tomorrow at 7 p.m., Rockport Music hosts Jerron Paxton and Dennis Lichtman at the Shalin Liu Performance Center.

The Rockport high school field hockey team lost to Amesbury 3 to 0 on Monday. Today, the boys soccer team hosts Amesbury at 4 p.m., and the girls soccer team hosts Amesbury at 6 p.m.
