Good morning, Essex. It's Wednesday, October 21. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Essex Daily Current, free public information for Essex. Today we look at local crash records.
State crash records show John Wise Avenue and Eastern Avenue had the most crashes in Essex over the past four years, with 32 each since January 2023. The state rates about one in five miles of numbered routes in town as poor, including almost half of Eastern Avenue.
The Manchester Select Board voted Monday to delay recommending the 95 million dollar borrowing article for the new Essex Elementary School. The board's vice chair wants a firm dollar limit for Manchester's share. The district expects the state to pay back about 20 million to 21 million dollars.
Today, the Cape Ann Regional Cable Advisory Committee meets at 6 p.m., and the Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Tomorrow, the Board of Health meets at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
The Essex Shipbuilding Museum hosts a nature walk today from 11 a.m. to noon. Tomorrow, the Burnham Public Library hosts a local history lecture from 7 to 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Manchester Essex boys soccer team beat Georgetown 4 to 1, and the girls team tied 2 to 2. In football, Triton beat Manchester Essex 48 to 8 on Friday, October 16. Today, the golf team plays at 9 a.m., and the field hockey team plays at 4 p.m.
The National Weather Service expects a cloudy Wednesday with a high near 52. A gale watch is posted for the bays from Thursday afternoon into Friday afternoon. High tides in the Essex River today are at 8:11 a.m. and 8:23 p.m.
One more thing, just for fun. The first Current Poll is open. Which Dunkin' on Cape Ann is your favorite? There are seven stores to choose from, in Gloucester, Essex and Manchester by the Sea. Vote at capeanncurrent dot com slash poll, and see the results right away. Voting ends Sunday night. It's a just for fun poll, not a scientific one.
