Coast Guard suspends search for missing boater

Good morning, Manchester by the Sea. It's Monday, October 5. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Manchester by the Sea Daily Brief. The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a boater missing off Singing Beach.

The Coast Guard suspended its search yesterday for a man missing after a fishing boat accident off Singing Beach. Local police, fire and harbormaster crews continued looking for the third man aboard the 30 foot boat that took on water Saturday afternoon. One man died in the accident, and another was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital in critical condition.

The Cape Ann Current has launched its free online voter guide. Residents will vote on Tuesday, November 3 at the Memorial Elementary School gym, with early voting at Town Hall starting on Saturday, October 17. The ballot includes Manchester by the Sea Republican Christina Delisio running for the Fifth Essex House seat.

A new property tax page on the Current website compares bills across Cape Ann. State figures show the average single family tax bill in town for fiscal 2026 is 16,371 dollars, based on an average home value of 1,881,670 dollars. That bill is 34 percent higher than it was in fiscal 2017.

The Select Board meets jointly with the Finance Committee tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall and on Zoom.

On Wednesday, October 7, Rosalie Sidoti hosts a live painting demonstration at the Sharksmouth Estate from noon to 1:30 p.m.

In high school sports, the Manchester Essex field hockey team hosts Rockport today at 4 p.m. In football on Friday, October 2, the Hornets fell to Amesbury 46 to 8.

The National Weather Service expects a sunny and milder Monday with a high near 67, and wind gusts up to 25 miles per hour. A small craft advisory takes effect at 3 p.m. High tides in Gloucester Harbor are at 7:08 a.m. and 7:29 p.m.
