With four weeks until Election Day, the Cape Ann Current has opened its free voter guide for Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea at capeanncurrent.com/elections.

It is built to answer the questions voters ask most: where do I vote, when can I vote early, who is running and what do the ballot questions actually do.

Start with your town

Choose your town at the top of the guide to see the dates that matter, an early voting calendar with each day's hours and your polling place on Nov. 3.

  • Gloucester voters can tap the map or pick a ward and precinct to see their polling place, with directions. The guide also shows the drop box at the Warren Street entrance to City Hall and the City Clerk's Election Day number.
  • Rockport lists all three precincts on Broadway and early voting at the Town Clerk's office, 34 Broadway, including Sunday, Oct. 25.
  • Manchester-by-the-Sea voters all vote at the Memorial Elementary School gym, 43 Lincoln St., with early voting at Town Hall.
  • Essex voters all vote at the Public Safety Building, 11 John Wise Ave. The town has not yet posted its November early voting hours; the guide will add them when it does.

Key dates for every Cape Ann voter

  • Sat., Oct. 17: Early voting begins.
  • Sat., Oct. 24: Last day to register to vote. Online registration is open until 11:59 p.m.
  • Tue., Oct. 27, 5 p.m.: Deadline to apply for a mail ballot.
  • Fri., Oct. 30: Early voting ends.
  • Tue., Nov. 3: Election Day. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The race for Cape Ann's House seat

All four towns make up the Fifth Essex District. Three candidates are on the ballot: Democrat Andrew "Dru" Tarr of Gloucester, who won the seat in the March 31 special election; Republican Christina Delisio of Manchester-by-the-Sea; and Gil Frieden of Essex, running under the Transparency Inclusion Environment designation. The guide shows how each town voted in this year's primaries and special election.

Everyone on the ballot

Pick an office, from U.S. Senate and governor to Governor's Council, district attorney and register of probate, to see every candidate with a link to their campaign website and any recent polling.

The nine ballot questions

Massachusetts voters face nine statewide questions this year, on public records for the Legislature and governor, union rights for public defender staff, an open primary, Election Day voter registration, a cap on state tax revenue, a Nature for All Fund, single-family homes on smaller lots, ending retail recreational marijuana sales and the 2024 gun law. Open any question in the guide to see what a Yes vote and a No vote would do, how it could play out on Cape Ann and which groups are campaigning on each side. A chart shows how much money each side has raised.

In the candidates' own words

The Current sent every candidate in the Fifth Essex, U.S. House, Governor's Council, U.S. Senate and governor races the same questionnaire, with the same deadline: 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. We publish each candidate's answers as written, and every race's answers side by side after the deadline. Anyone can read the exact questions each race received from links in the guide.

How we cover elections

The Current does not endorse candidates or ballot questions, and it does not accept political advertising from anyone. Every candidate in a race gets the same questions, the same deadline and the same space. Our election standards explain the rules.
