Good morning, Essex. It's Tuesday, October 6. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Essex Daily Brief. Today we look at the Woodman family foundation passing one million dollars in giving.

The Daily Brief is free, and supported by local businesses. To sponsor it, visit capeanncurrent dot com slash advertise.

The foundation tied to Woodman's of Essex says it has given more than one million dollars to local students and groups since 1988. Renamed in 2022 to give more broadly, it funds scholarships for graduating seniors who attended Essex Elementary School. On Wednesday, October 14, The James will give 10 percent of its proceeds to the foundation.

Trash disposal in town pays its own way. Residents buy a sticker and pay for every bag left at the transfer station. In the year ending June 30, 2025, fees brought in about 278,000 dollars, covering the station's costs. A household bringing one large bag a week pays about 358 dollars a year.

The Conservation Commission meets tonight at 7 p.m., and the Council on Aging board also meets today. At 6 p.m., the Manchester Essex Regional School Committee meets online and at the Learning Commons to hear the Essex Elementary and Memorial School principals present their improvement plans.

Tonight, the TOHP Burnham Public Library hosts a classical guitar concert at 7 p.m. The James Pub and Provisions hosts a trivia night at 6:30 p.m.

Yesterday, the Manchester Essex field hockey team shut out Rockport 6 to 0. Today, the golf team hosts Georgetown at the Essex County Club at 3:30 p.m. Girls soccer plays Rockport at home at 4 p.m., and the boys travel to Rockport at 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service expects a sunny Tuesday with a high near 58 and wind gusts up to 32 miles per hour, and a clear night with a low around 42. Essex River high tides come about 12 to 14 minutes after the Gloucester Harbor high tides at 8:15 a.m. and 8:36 p.m.
