Good morning, Rockport. It's Tuesday, October 6. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Rockport Daily Brief. Today we look at what the town spends on the transfer station, and what it costs you.

The Daily Brief is free, and supported by local businesses. To sponsor it, visit capeanncurrent dot com slash advertise.

Town meeting approved about 804,000 dollars for the transfer station for the year that began July 1. That is about 256 dollars for each household the town serves. Residents pay 140 dollars for an annual sticker, plus 3 dollars for every 35 gallon blue bag. A household throwing away one large bag a week pays about 296 dollars a year. The town says trash volume fell from about 1,257 pounds per household in 2023 to about 1,054 in 2025.

The school district feeds about 620 students every day, with every meal free under state law. In a 2023 federal survey, Rockport reported making up to 75 percent of its menu items from scratch, and spending about 15 percent of its food budget on local food. The middle and high school menu includes a full salad bar, fruit smoothies and vegan garden burgers.

The Select Board meets on Zoom at 6 p.m. tonight. The agenda includes votes on a Christmas in Rockport proposal, the November 3 election warrant, and a joint lawyer for cable talks with Comcast.

At the Rockport Public Library today, adults can drop in for board games from 2 to 3:45 p.m.

In high school sports, the field hockey team lost to Manchester Essex 6 to 0 on Monday. Today, the golf team hosts Ipswich at 3:30 p.m. Girls soccer plays at Manchester Essex at 4 p.m., and boys soccer hosts Manchester Essex at 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service expects a sunny and gusty Tuesday, with a high near 58 and northwest gusts up to 32 miles per hour. Tonight is expected to be clear with a low around 42. High tides come just before 8:15 a.m. and 8:36 p.m.
