Manchester Essex football falls to Hamilton Wenham, and Essex enters Level 2 drought

Good morning, Essex. It's Saturday, October 10. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Essex Daily Current, free public information for Essex. In high school sports, the Manchester Essex football team fell to Hamilton Wenham last night.
In high school sports, the Manchester Essex football team lost to Hamilton Wenham yesterday, 14 to 8. Today, the girls soccer team hosts Salem at 5 p.m. The field hockey team hosts Sandwich at 12:30 p.m. On Monday, the field hockey team travels to Lynnfield for a 10 a.m. game.
There are several events in Essex today. A community breakfast runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Essex. The free Essex Arts and Culture Festival is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum. The Crane Estate hosts a Choate Island kayak and hiking adventure at 10 a.m., and a sunset kayak tour at 4 p.m.
The state moved Essex and the rest of the Northeast Region to a Level 2 significant drought yesterday. The state asks residents to use less water and fix indoor leaks. Towns are asked to limit washing sidewalks, driveways and cars.
Starting Friday, October 16, a three week series on the Cape Ann Current will follow public money to see what share reaches local businesses. The series is built on public records, mainly the state Comptroller's spending data, and covers state and federal spending.
Town offices are closed on Monday for Columbus Day. On Tuesday, October 13, the Essex Board of Health meets at 9 a.m. and the Board of Selectmen meets at 6 p.m. Also at 6 p.m. that day, the Essex School Building Committee holds a community meeting at Manchester Memorial Elementary School.
The National Weather Service expects a sunny day today, with a high near 59, and a mostly cloudy Sunday, followed by rain showers Sunday night. High tide in Gloucester Harbor is at 11:41 a.m., and high tides in the Essex River come about 10 to 13 minutes later.
