Good morning, Gloucester. It's Saturday, October 10. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Gloucester Daily Current, free public information for Gloucester. In sports, Gloucester football and field hockey both took home wins yesterday.
In high school sports yesterday, Gloucester football beat Salem 35 to 17 at home. The field hockey team shut out Danvers 5 to 0 on the road. Today, Rockport visits Gloucester for soccer, with the girls playing at 4 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m. The junior varsity football team hosts Everett at 1:30 p.m.

Massachusetts moved Gloucester to a Level 2 significant drought yesterday. The state says groundwater remains low despite September rain. Officials ask residents to use less water and fix indoor leaks. The state also urges cities to limit or ban washing sidewalks, driveways, cars and boats.
A new series on the local economy begins Friday, October 16. It will follow public money to see what share reaches Cape Ann businesses, using state Comptroller records. A free tool opening Friday, October 30, will let you search state vendor payments since 2010.
City offices are closed Monday for Columbus Day. On Tuesday, the City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall for zoning hearings and an election warrant vote. The Licensing Board also meets Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The School Committee meets Wednesday at 6 p.m.
