Hamilton Wenham football defeats Manchester Essex, and the region enters a significant drought

Good morning, Manchester by the Sea. It's Saturday, October 10. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Manchester by the Sea Daily Current, free public information for Manchester by the Sea. In sports, Hamilton Wenham football defeated Manchester Essex on Friday.
In high school sports, the Hamilton Wenham football team defeated Manchester Essex 14 to 8 on Friday. Today, the girls soccer team hosts Salem at 5 p.m., and the field hockey team hosts Sandwich at 12:30 p.m. On Monday, the field hockey team travels to Lynnfield for a 10 a.m. game.
In town today, the Cape Ann Plein Air Quick event runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the First Parish Church. A Quick Draw event is in the Community Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids Plein Air Painting is at the public library from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The junior varsity boys football team hosts Hamilton Wenham from 10 a.m. to noon.
The state moved Manchester by the Sea to a Level 2 significant drought on Friday. The state asks residents to use less water overall and to fix indoor leaks. Officials also urge residents to check with their local water system for any stricter local rules.
Starting Friday, October 16, a three week series will follow public money to see what share reaches local businesses. The series is built on state public records. It will look at state and federal spending with small businesses.
Town offices are closed on Monday for Columbus Day. On Tuesday, October 13, the Conservation Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom, and the Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, October 14, the Council on Aging executive board meets at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Harbor Advisory Committee at 5:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service expects a sunny day today with a high near 59, and a mostly cloudy Sunday with a high near 60, followed by rain showers Sunday night.
