Good morning, Essex. It's Thursday, October 15. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Essex Daily Current, free public information for Essex. Today we look at three preservation projects heading to a town committee.
The Essex Community Preservation Committee will review three funding requests when it meets on Wednesday, October 21. According to the agenda, the committee will consider kayak racks on Red Gate Road, erosion control at Centennial Grove, and the design of a downtown rail trail. Residents can speak at the 5 p.m. meeting at Town Hall. A draft warrant for the November 16 fall town meeting already names the Centennial Grove work as a possible item.
In town meetings today, the Finance Committee meets at 7 p.m., and the Board of Fire Engineers also meets at 7 p.m.
The Land and Sea Club meets today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum. On Saturday, Choate Island Day runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Crane Wildlife Refuge.
In high school sports, Manchester Essex field hockey shut out Ipswich 4 to 0 on Wednesday. In cross country, the boys beat Hamilton Wenham 19 to 40, and the girls fell 41 to 20. Today, the golf team plays at the Essex County Club at 3:30 p.m. Girls soccer travels to Ipswich at 4 p.m., and the boys host Ipswich at 6 p.m.
The National Weather Service expects a sunny and breezy day today, with a high near 58 and north winds gusting to 26 miles per hour, and says rain is likely tomorrow. High tides in the Essex River run up to 27 minutes later than Gloucester Harbor, where there are high tides at 2:50 a.m. and 2:56 p.m.
We also remember Rita E. Wilson Jordan, 88.
