Good morning, Manchester by the Sea. It's Friday, October 16. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Manchester by the Sea Daily Current, free public information for Manchester by the Sea. The Planning Board is pushing back on the size of the Gordon Woods apartment plan.
The Planning Board told the developer of the Gordon Woods project on Tuesday that its plan is still too big. Jefferson Apartment Group wants to build 245 rental apartments on about 20 acres of Gordon College land off Pine Street. About 61 apartments would be priced as affordable. The developer estimates market rents would run from 2,800 to 5,000 dollars a month. The board has little say right now because the developer plans to use the state 40B law.
In town meetings today, the Manchester Essex schools communications working group meets online at 11:30 a.m.
On Saturday, Manchester Essex junior varsity boys football plays Triton at the home field at 10 a.m. Also on Saturday, the public library hosts D and D for kids from noon to 3 p.m.
In high school sports, the Manchester Essex boys soccer team shut out Ipswich at home on Thursday, 2 to 0. The girls soccer team fell to Ipswich 3 to 0. In golf, Ipswich scored 171, Manchester Essex 134, and Rockport 129. Today, girls soccer hosts Marblehead at 4 p.m. The football team plays at Triton at 6:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service expects a wet and windy Friday. Showers are likely most of the day, with a high near 68 and wind gusts up to 33 miles per hour. A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m., followed by a gale watch on the water through Saturday evening.
