Gloucester field hockey blanks Peabody again, heads toward a first place showdown with Beverly

Gloucester's field hockey team keeps winning, and it keeps winning without giving up goals.
The Fishermen beat Peabody 5 to 0 on the road Monday, Sept. 28, for their third straight shutout. They are 7 and 0, and 4 and 0 in the Northeastern Conference.
Gloucester has outscored its seven opponents 33 to 3 and has five shutouts. Monday's win completed a sweep of Peabody. The Fishermen beat the Tanners 10 to 0 at home Sept. 24, then blanked Manchester Essex 2 to 0 the next afternoon.
What it means
Gloucester and Beverly are tied atop the NEC standings at 4 and 0. Beverly is 6 and 1 overall. Its only loss came against St. Mary's of Lynn.
Gloucester is also first in MaxPreps' Division 2 North standings, ahead of 7 and 1 Watertown. Those are not the MIAA's official tournament rankings.
