Gloucester volleyball outlasts Triton in five sets, then sweeps Georgetown

The Fishermen dropped two sets by wide margins at Triton but won the fifth 15 to 13, then swept Georgetown for a third straight win. They visit Swampscott on Thursday.

Gloucester's volleyball team had to go the distance at Triton on Monday. It came away with its second win in a row.

The Fishermen beat the Vikings 3 sets to 2 in Byfield on Sept. 28. The set scores were 14 to 25, 25 to 21, 8 to 25, 25 to 23 and 15 to 13, according to the MaxPreps box score.

Gloucester lost the first and third sets by wide margins. It answered each time, then took a tight fourth set and edged Triton in the deciding fifth.

The win followed a sweep of Minuteman at home Sept. 24, by scores of 25 to 23, 25 to 23 and 25 to 16. Before that, Gloucester had lost 3 to 0 at Whittier on Sept. 21.

Triton fell to 1 and 8.

Gloucester made it three wins in a row Wednesday night, sweeping Georgetown on the road 25 to 13, 25 to 17 and 25 to 23, according to MaxPreps. The Royals are 0 and 10.

The Fishermen are 4 and 5 overall. The Triton, Minuteman and Georgetown matches were all nonleague, so Gloucester remains 1 and 2 in the Northeastern Conference.
