The weekend looks sunny, with a high near 54 Saturday and near 58 Sunday, the National Weather Service says. Here are some picks from our calendar.

Saturday, Oct. 24

  • Medicine take back, Gloucester, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The city's Health and Police departments collect unneeded prescription and over the counter medicines at the back parking lot of the Rose Baker Center for Aging Well, 6 Manuel F. Lewis St., and hand out free Narcan. What they take and what they do not.
  • Essex ClamFest, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 41st ClamFest and Arts and Crafts Festival fills Shepard Memorial Park, 24 Martin St. Admission is free. The chowder tasting, $15 a person, runs from noon to 1 p.m. while the chowder lasts, with winners named at 3 p.m. There are also crafters, food trucks, live music, kids' activities and an Essex Police K-9 demonstration from 11 a.m. to noon.
  • Magnolia's grand hotels, Gloucester, 2 to 3 p.m. The Sawyer Free Library's monthly Local History Sharing looks at the Hesperus and Oceanside hotels, with old photos and maps, and invites the audience to share what they know. It is in the Community Room at 2 Dale Ave. Register on the library's page.
  • Hidden Gems, Rockport, opens Saturday. The Rockport Art Association and Museum shows lesser seen works from its own collection in the Wengenroth Gallery, 12 Main St., through Dec. 31.

Sunday, Oct. 25

  • String Spectacular, Manchester-by-the-Sea, 3 p.m. Cape Ann Symphony musicians play large works for strings at Crowell Chapel, 4 Rosedale Ave., in the orchestra's Musicians Unleashed series. Tickets are $50. The box office is (978) 281-0543.

The Cape Ann Museum's Saturday talk on its Seated Cat bronze is canceled, the museum says.
