Governor's Council, 5th District candidates, in their own words

Cape Ann Votes 2026 · Voter guide

Two candidates are running for Governor's Council in the 5th District, which includes all of Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea. The eight member council votes on the governor's nominations of judges, clerk magistrates and parole board members, and on pardons and commutations. We sent the same questions to every candidate we could reach. Here are the answers, as written.

The Cape Ann Current does not endorse candidates. Answers are the candidates' own words, shown in quotation marks and published as submitted with only obvious typos fixed. The Current reports each candidate's position and does not endorse anything a candidate says. Answers are limited to 150 words per issue and 40 words per ballot question. Answers were due Oct. 16. Ballot question titles are the Current's short labels; see all nine questions explained. Candidate names, parties and hometowns are from the Secretary of the Commonwealth's ballot list.
