Good morning, Rockport. It's Friday, October 2. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Rockport Daily Brief. Today we look at what automated license plate readers would mean for Rockport.

The Daily Brief is free, and supported by local businesses. To sponsor it, visit capeanncurrent dot com slash advertise.

Automated license plate readers are spreading across the North Shore, but not on Cape Ann. Rockport is not listed as a customer of Flock Safety, the largest seller, in a Boston.com survey, and the Current found no current public record of the cameras in use in town. The cameras photograph passing cars to check plates against watch lists. Some neighboring cities use them, but the crimes they target are rare here. FBI data shows Rockport reported no more than three burglaries and two vehicle thefts in any year from 2022 through 2025.

Tomorrow brings a couple of events to town. The Rockport Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harvey Park. Then, the Rockport Art Association and Museum hosts a reception for three new exhibitions from 1 to 3 p.m.

In high school sports yesterday, North Reading beat Rockport girls soccer 5 to 1. The Rockport boys soccer team also fell to North Reading, losing 1 to 0 on the road.

The National Weather Service expects a mostly sunny day today with a high near 74, followed by a slight chance of evening showers. The weekend is expected to be sunny and cooler, with highs in the low 60s. High tide in Rockport is at 4:01 p.m. today. Also, the town still bans all outdoor water use due to a mild drought.

We also remember Amnon Wachman, 91.
