Cape Ann Museum's October: a free day for residents, a Dogtown walk and a Folly Cove printing class
The museum is free for Cape Ann residents on Saturday, Oct. 10. Registration is open for a four-week block printing course and a guided walk through historic Dogtown.
The Cape Ann Museum opens its doors free to Cape Ann residents on Saturday, Oct. 10, and has several other October programs that need a spot reserved now.
Free day, Oct. 10
On the second Saturday of every month, the museum at 27 Pleasant St. in Gloucester is free for Cape Ann residents. On Oct. 10 it is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families can make a hands-on art project in the museum's Education Studio and pick up a scavenger hunt to take through the galleries.
Learn to block print, Folly Cove style
Artist Mary Rhinelander teaches a four-week block printing course drawn from the work of the Folly Cove Designers, the Cape Ann design collective. Classes meet Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m., starting Oct. 7 and ending Nov. 4, with no class Oct. 28. The course costs $100 for museum members and $160 for others, sold only as a full package. Registration is required.
Walk through Dogtown, Oct. 18
A museum walking tour follows the old roads of Dogtown, the settlement at the center of Gloucester that people left long ago, on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. Walkers meet at the Babson Boulder parking area on Cherry Street. Tickets are $15 for members and $25 for others, and registration is required.

- Artful Conversations: A docent leads a close look at Frederick J. Mulhaupt's painting "Morning, Gloucester Harbor" on Thursdays, Oct. 22 and 29, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Members pay $5; adult nonmembers pay $25, which includes museum admission.
- From clay to bronze: Sculptor Robert Shure talks about his new bronze "Seated Cat" in the museum's courtyard, an enlargement of Katherine Lane Weems' 1941 work, on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Members pay $5; adult nonmembers pay $30, including admission.
