Topsfield Fair today: dock dogs finals, horse pulling and a lumberjack show

The fair runs through Monday, Oct. 12. Sunday's program has sheep shows, racing pigs, State Police dogs and music on four stages from 10 a.m. into the evening.

The Topsfield Fair is in its first weekend, and Sunday's program is full from morning church services to a classic rock show at night. The fair runs through Monday, Oct. 12, at 207 Boston St. in Topsfield.

Animals and contests

  • Dock Dogs: Big Wave at 11 a.m., Speed Retrieve at 1 p.m. and the Big Air finals at 3:30 p.m., all at the grandstand.
  • Horse pulling in the arena at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. (free-for-all classes), and 7 p.m. (horses 3,435 pounds and under).
  • Swifty Swine racing and swimming pigs on Grange Road at 11 a.m., 1, 3, 5 and 6:30 p.m.
  • Open sheep shows in the show tent starting at 10 a.m.
  • State Police K-9 Unit demonstrations at the Essex County Farmyard at 1 and 4 p.m.
  • Maxwell Station six-horse hitch on the grounds at 1:30 p.m. and in the arena at 2 p.m.
  • A hay tossing contest at 11 a.m. and the money pole at noon, 3 and 6 p.m., both at the farmyard.

Shows

The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show performs on Arena Road at 12:30, 3:30 and 6 p.m. Weekend food contest winners are announced in Coolidge Hall at 2 p.m.

Music

  • Trianon Stage: Northshore Junction Band at noon, Jimmy Three Times at 3 p.m. and Desperate Measures, classic rock, at 7 p.m.
  • Picnic Area: Billy Goodrich at 10 a.m., Paul Prue and the Bradford Boys at 12:30 p.m., Kerr Griffin at 3:30 p.m. and the L&M Rhythm Kings at 6 p.m.
  • New Meadows: the Johnnie Bubar Show at 11 a.m., Tom O'Carroll at 2:30 p.m. and Don Bartenstein at 6 p.m.
  • Flower Barn: folk harpist Pamela Roberts at 10 a.m.

Tickets

Admission is $20, and children under 8 get in free with an adult ticket, according to the fair. Sales are final. Ride tickets are sold separately. The fair's website does not list daily hours or parking prices; call 978-887-5000 or see topsfieldfair.org.
