Long weekend on Cape Ann: art shows, open studios, Magtoberfest and two big Rockport concerts

Art fills the long weekend on Cape Ann, with a village craft show, a painting competition's 10th year and open studios, plus a festival in Essex and Magtoberfest in Magnolia. Here are the highlights. The full list is on our events calendar.

Friday, Oct. 9

• Annisquam Arts and Crafts Show opening night, 6 to 9 p.m., Annisquam Village Hall, 34 Leonard St., Gloucester. The show itself runs Saturday and Sunday; see the church's page for hours.
• Cape Ann Plein Air 10th anniversary gala and art sale, 6 to 8 p.m., North Shore Arts Association, 11 Pirates Lane, Gloucester. Tickets $100 to $125.
• Stacey Kent, 7:30 p.m., Shalin Liu Performance Center, 37 Main St., Rockport. The listing says seats are limited.

Saturday, Oct. 10

• Rockport Farmers Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Harvey Park.
• Plein Air Quick Draw, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., based at First Parish Church Community Hall, 1 Chapel Lane, Manchester. Kids Plein Air Painting is 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Manchester library, 15 Union St.
• Plein Air art sale and open gallery, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, North Shore Arts Association, Gloucester.
• Cape Ann Artisans open studios, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at artists' studios around Cape Ann. Read our preview.
• Cape Ann Museum Second Saturdays family programs, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 27 Pleasant St., Gloucester. Free.
• Essex River Cultural District festival, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Essex Shipbuilding Museum's site says, with more details to come.
• Rockport Art Walk, 4 to 7 p.m., at galleries downtown.
• Chanticleer, 7:30 p.m., Shalin Liu Performance Center, Rockport.

Sunday, Oct. 11
