What it offers

Kern says the business offers:

  • E-bike, kayak and stand up paddleboard tours.
  • Guided camping trips to Thacher Island.
  • Guided hiking, plus foraging and survival classes.
  • Outdoor equipment rentals.
  • Outings for large groups, corporate groups and weddings, which he calls "M.I.C.E. tourism."

The business's Cape Ann 411 listing adds augmented reality outdoor escape room games.

How it started

Kern says the business idea was founded and tested from 1998 through 2021 as North Shore Kayak. He wrote that after several layoffs as a teacher and scientist he was looking for his next opportunity, and the founder was looking to sell his inventory and business model. Kern says he looked over the situation, decided there was "plenty of growth opportunities" even after 25 years, bought the inventory and property, and started North Shore Adventures LLC. "Here we are 5 years later," he wrote.

What the owner says sets it apart

"As someone who is passionate about the Environment and helping others and the world as a whole, I like to provide whatever it is that people need to build their personal connections to the natural world," Kern wrote. He says staff are trained first in keeping customers safe, and also in the biology and history of the area.

Coming up

Kern says discounted gift certificates are planned for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. "What better gift for family and friends that don't need more 'stuff' than an incredible experience with some seals, or climbing to the top of a lighthouse!" he wrote. No prices were provided.
