Good morning, Rockport. It's Thursday, October 1. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Rockport Daily Brief. Today we look at the first steps toward allowing tiny houses in town.

The Planning Board has started drafting a bylaw to allow tiny houses. This is the first step to meet a state deadline tied to the Seasonal Community designation voters approved in April. The town has two years to allow year round detached homes of up to 400 square feet, and year round housing on lots of at least 10,000 square feet.
Twelve Cape Ann artists and craftspeople will open their working studios to the public on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11. The free, self guided fall tour includes studios in Rockport and Gloucester.
In town meetings today, the Historical Commission meets on Zoom at 4 p.m. A Thacher and Straitsmouth Island meeting follows on Zoom at 7 p.m.
Looking ahead to Saturday, the Rockport Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harvey Park. Later that afternoon, the Rockport Art Association and Museum hosts a free reception for three new exhibitions from 1 to 3 p.m.
In high school sports, the boys soccer team rallied from a two goal halftime deficit to beat Georgetown 5 to 3 on Tuesday. Deion Kasera scored twice. The girls soccer team lost 1 to 0 to Georgetown on Tuesday, and field hockey tied North Reading 1 to 1 on Wednesday. Today, boys soccer plays at North Reading at 4:30 p.m., and the girls host North Reading at 6 p.m.
The National Weather Service expects partly sunny skies today with a high near 72, and mostly sunny skies Friday with a high near 73, before a chance of showers Friday night. High tides in Rockport run just before 3:08 p.m. today and 4:05 p.m. on Friday.
We also remember Dorothy Cahill Tessier, 74.
