Gloucester football beat Winthrop 28 to 7 last night at Newell Stadium. The homecoming win opens Northeastern Conference play and improves the Fishermen to 3 and 1. In field hockey, Gloucester is ninth in Division 3 in the state's latest power rankings. The unbeaten Fishermen have the area's top two scorers. Junior Fiona Black leads with 18 points, and Mia Rodolosi is second with 17. Senior Aleena Brown tops area goalies with 5 shutouts. There are no varsity games today.

Here are a few things to do in Gloucester this weekend. Today at 10 a.m., Generous Gardeners sells cut dahlia bouquets on Stacy Boulevard. At 11 a.m., pets will be blessed in the rectory parking lot at Our Lady of Good Voyage. Also today, Beauport Cruiselines hosts an Oktoberfest Cruise from 1 to 4 p.m. Tomorrow at 1 p.m., The Cut hosts a K Pop dance battle.

Gloucester now has a five year road map for housing. The Planning Board and the City Council both voted unanimously this week to adopt the Housing Compass. It covers how the city protects renters and homeowners, keeps the housing it has, and decides where new homes should go. Adoption does not change any zoning or spend any money. Each idea goes through its own public process, and the plan now goes to the state for approval. Our Housing Compass tracker at capeanncurrent dot com lists all 24 actions and will follow each one.

On Tuesday, October 6, the city's trust fund commissioners will review trust balances and discuss spending income from the Huntress Fund. On Wednesday, October 7, the Council on Aging board meets to discuss rebranding the Rose Baker Center. The agenda does not specify if that means a new name or a new look.

The National Weather Service expects a sunny and cool weekend. Look for a high near 61 today and 59 tomorrow, with showers possible tomorrow night. High tides in Gloucester Harbor crest today at 4:51 a.m. and 5:09 p.m.

We also remember Jennie Babe Ciaramitaro Favazza, 93, and Roderick C. MacNeil, 79.
