Friday, Oct. 2: Gloucester 28, Winthrop 7, football

Gloucester gave its homecoming crowd a win at Newell Stadium, beating Winthrop 28 to 7 to open Northeastern Conference play. The Fishermen are 3 and 1 and have won two straight. Winthrop is 2 and 2. Read the story.

Friday, Oct. 2: Amesbury 46, Manchester Essex 8, football

Amesbury beat the Hornets at Hyland Field. Manchester Essex is 0 and 4 and visits Hamilton-Wenham on Friday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. Read the story.

  • Football: Endicott 55, University of New England 27. The nationally ranked Gulls won at UNE in Biddeford, Maine. UNE is 0 and 5.
  • Field hockey: Endicott 6, Gordon 0. The Gulls shut out Gordon in Beverly. Gordon is 1 and 10.
  • Volleyball: Endicott 3, Kean 2. The Gulls lost the first two sets at Kean in Union, N.J., then won the next three.
