Good morning, Manchester by the Sea. It's Tuesday, October 6. From the Cape Ann Current, I'm Kerry Jane, with your Manchester by the Sea Daily Brief. Today we look at a local foundation passing one million dollars in giving.

The L. Dexter Woodman Family Foundation says it has given more than one million dollars to local students and groups since 1988, including scholarships for Manchester Essex seniors. To raise funds, the foundation is hosting a Left Right Center dice game night on Saturday, October 24, at American Legion Post 113 in Manchester. Tickets are 35 dollars.

Orange trash bags are gone from Manchester by the Sea curbs. Since September 22, the town has used automated trucks to empty new town issued carts. Most households will see a 100 dollar yearly charge for a standard 35 gallon cart on their water and sewer bill starting in November.

Town Hall will be closed on Monday, October 12.

In town meetings today, the Manchester Essex schools Finance Subcommittee meets virtually at noon. The School Committee meets at 6 p.m. in the middle and high school Learning Commons to hear elementary school improvement plans and the 2027 budget outlook.

Tomorrow, you can catch a live painting demonstration at the Sharksmouth Estate starting at noon. Also at noon, the Manchester by the Sea Museum hosts a teen art afternoon focused on sculpting.

In high school sports, the Manchester Essex field hockey team shut out Rockport 6 to 0 on Monday. Today, the girls soccer team hosts Rockport at 4 p.m., while the boys travel to Rockport for a 6 p.m. game. The golf team hosts Georgetown at 3:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service expects a sunny, cool and gusty Tuesday, with a high near 58 and northwest gusts up to 32 miles per hour. Tonight is expected to be clear and chilly with a low around 42.
