Expect cannon fire and Coast Guard flares over Gloucester Harbor today: Community Safety Day on Harbor Loop
The city says Saturday's event runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a National Guard cannon firing at 11, a Coast Guard helicopter rescue demonstration at noon and live flares at 1. The noise may carry beyond the harbor.

Gloucester's Community Safety Day is Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Harbor Loop, the city announced Friday. The U.S. Coast Guard and the National Guard will give demonstrations, and the city warned that they may be loud enough to hear well beyond the event.
The schedule
- 11 a.m.: cannon firing by the National Guard.
- Noon: a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter swim rescue demonstration.
- 1 p.m.: a live flare demonstration by the Coast Guard.
The city's notice did not list parking, road closures or other activities.
