Question 4 would let eligible people register to vote, or update an address, at the polls on Election Day, starting in 2028. Today the deadline is 10 days before an election.

A Yes vote makes that change. A No vote keeps the current deadline.

Supporters say it would help renters, students and people who move often. Opponents say elections must be protected from fraud, and that the advance deadline serves that purpose.

As of Oct. 26, the Yes committees had reported about $171,000, and no committee against was listed, according to the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Early voting runs through Thursday, Oct. 29, in Essex and through Friday, Oct. 30, in Gloucester, Rockport and Manchester; see the last week of early voting for hours. All nine questions and the candidates are in our Election 2026 guide.
