Manchester Essex School Committee to hear elementary school plans and the FY27 outlook Tuesday

The principals of Essex Elementary and Memorial School present improvement plans, the building committee reports in, and a finance panel keeps talking about rental and student activity fees.

The Manchester Essex Regional School Committee meets Tuesday, Oct. 6, and the district's two elementary schools are near the top of its list.

Essex Elementary Principal Kim Provost and Memorial School Principal John Willis are scheduled to update the committee on their schools' improvement plans and the outlook for the 2027 budget year, according to the agenda.

The meeting runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the middle and high school Learning Commons, and online through WebEx.

Also on the agenda

  • A report from the subcommittee on elementary facilities and the Essex School Building Committee, which is weighing the cost of a new Essex Elementary School. Read about the building committee's Sept. 22 meeting.
  • A first reading of background check policies from the policy subcommittee.
  • A curriculum update from Heather Leonard, the district's director of curriculum and instructional technology, and an operations and facilities update.
  • Approval of out of state travel for a high school social studies trip to the 9/11 Memorial, on the consent agenda.
  • Public comment, a student report and the superintendent's update.

Fees on the finance agenda

Earlier Tuesday, from noon to 1 p.m., the committee's finance subcommittee meets online. Its agenda lists an update on closing out the 2026 budget year, the auditor's report and an ongoing discussion of fees, including what the district charges to rent its buildings and its student activity fee.

The full committee meets again Oct. 20. Agendas and the WebEx link are on the district's agenda page.
