Cape Ann sports week: GHS 7-5, RHS 5-3-1, MERHS 3-1-2

Gloucester went 7 and 5, Rockport 5, 3 and 1, and Manchester Essex 3, 1 and 2 in varsity games from Monday, Oct. 19, to Sunday, Oct. 25. Gloucester field hockey stayed unbeaten and Rockport boys soccer won all three of its games.

Gloucester won 7 varsity games and lost 5 this week, Rockport went 5, 3 and 1, and Manchester Essex went 3, 1 and 2, in games from Monday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Oct. 25.

Gloucester: 7-5 this week (boys 2-2, girls 5-3)

  • Field hockey 2-0. The Fishermen won 6 to 1 at Swampscott on Oct. 20 and beat Saugus 4 to 0 at home on Oct. 23 to go 15 and 0.
  • Girls soccer 1-2, with a 4 to 0 win at Whittier Tech on Oct. 23.
  • Volleyball 2-1.
  • Boys soccer 1-2.
  • Football 1-0. Saugus forfeited the Oct. 23 game, which counts as a Gloucester win. (Read about the forfeit.)
  • Top wins: GFH Final: GHS 6, SWHS 1 (Oct. 20); GFH Final: GHS 4, SAHS 0 (Oct. 23); GSOC Final: GHS 4, WRVT 0 (Oct. 23).
  • Fall season: 40-29-3 (boys 13-11-1, girls 26-18-2, coed 1-0). School year: 40-29-3.

Rockport: 5-3-1 this week (boys 3-0, girls 2-3-1)

  • Boys soccer 3-0, beating Amesbury, Lynnfield and Essex Tech. (Lynnfield, Essex Tech)
  • Girls soccer 1-1-1, with a 3 to 1 home win over Amesbury on Oct. 20 and a 0 to 0 tie with Essex Tech on Saturday. (Essex Tech)
  • Field hockey 1-2, ending the week with a 2 to 1 home win over Essex Tech. (Essex Tech)
  • Top wins: GSOC Final: RHS 3, AMHS 1 (Oct. 20); BSOC Final: RHS 2, LHS 0 (Oct. 22); BSOC Final: RHS 2, ET 0 (Oct. 24).
  • Fall season: 12-35-6 (boys 6-11-1, girls 6-24-5). School year: 12-35-6.

Manchester Essex: 3-1-2 this week (boys 2-1, girls 1-0-2)

  • Boys soccer 2-1, with wins at Mystic Valley on Oct. 19 and at Georgetown on Oct. 20.
  • Girls soccer 0-0-2, with ties at Georgetown and Essex Tech.
  • Field hockey 1-0, a 2 to 0 win at Essex Tech on Oct. 21.
  • Top wins: BSOC Final: MERHS 4, GEHS 1 (Oct. 20); GFH Final: MERHS 2, ET 0 (Oct. 21); BSOC Final: MERHS 2, MVRCS 1 (Oct. 19).
  • Fall season: 23-22-10 (boys 11-8-4, girls 12-13-6, coed 0-1). School year: 23-22-10.
