Gloucester cart size swaps start Monday, Nov. 9. Find your swap day
If you asked the city for a different size trash or recycling cart, leave the one to be swapped at the curb after pickup. Swap days shift the week of Nov. 9 because Wednesday, Nov. 11, is a holiday.

Trust Check: Checked against public records
Gloucester residents who asked for a different size trash or recycling cart will start getting them swapped on Monday, Nov. 9, the city says.
How a swap works
- Put your carts out on your regular pickup day, as usual.
- After the truck empties them, leave any cart that needs to be swapped or removed at the curb.
- Leave it there through the end of the next day. That is when the swap happens.
Find your swap day
Wednesday, Nov. 11, is a holiday, so pickup is delayed one day. That moves swap days the week of Nov. 9. Here is the city's chart, with the pickup day for that week.
| Your pickup day | Carts out | Swap day |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Mon., Nov. 9 | Tue., Nov. 10 |
| Tuesday | Tue., Nov. 10 | Thu., Nov. 12Moved by the holiday |
| Wednesday | Thu., Nov. 12Holiday delay | Fri., Nov. 13 |
| Thursday | Fri., Nov. 13Holiday delay | Sat., Nov. 14 |
| Friday | Sat., Nov. 14Holiday delay | Mon., Nov. 16 |
Wednesday, Nov. 11, is a holiday, so Wednesday, Thursday and Friday pickups each move one day later.
After that week, the city says to expect your new cart the day after your trash pickup day.
Add it to your calendar
Pick your pickup day. Apple and Outlook users get one file with both reminders: one the evening before carts go out, and one at 5 p.m. on swap day to check whether your cart was swapped. Google Calendar users can add each date with one tap.
If your cart is not swapped
The city says the swap process may take more than one week. If your cart has not been swapped by 7 p.m. on your swap day, bring it back in from the curb so it is not out longer than it needs to be. Then repeat the steps the next week.
